AI can transform how students learn — but it can be overwhelming for educators to master this new technology on top of their already demanding workloads. Existing AI training initiatives often require hours of time, and they don’t always clearly show how teachers can use what they’ve learned to help their students. We believe every educator deserves access to tools that enable personalized learning, giving them the time to focus on their students.
That’s why Google for Education is launching a landmark initiative with ISTE+ASCD to provide free, comprehensive Gemini training to all 6 million K-12 and higher education faculty in the U.S. It’s the largest initiative of its kind, designed to help these educators and their over 74 million students safely and thoughtfully use Google’s suite of AI tools – including Gemini and NotebookLM – to thrive in a world where AI is becoming more prevalent.
Our unique approach
This initiative has been thoughtfully designed with training modules that are concise and flexible, specifically addressing the needs of today’s busy teachers and built by educators for educators. Each bite-sized module offers real-world examples to drive student learning and can be immediately applied in classrooms. After educators complete a session, they will receive recognition in the form of micro-credentials, or badges, to demonstrate their AI literacy with Google tools.
Materials will be designed using ISTE+ASCD’s profile of an AI Ready Graduate — a framework that equips students with the essential AI competencies for future success — while aligning with their latest standards for faculty and educators. Topics will include use cases such as:
- How educators can create personalized lessons for each student in their classroom based on their same-day assessment results
- How faculty can use Gemini to give each student in a crowded lecture hall their own individualized study coach
- How K12 teachers can adapt existing curricular materials to meet students’ diverse needs such as reading levels, primary languages, and visual learning needs
- How faculty can use NotebookLM to enable students to create customized study guides, infographics, or interactive podcasts so they can learn in a way that’s most effective for them
